Jordan Executive Summary

Jordan has developed a diplomatic initiative to encourage the voluntary return of Syrian refugees. However, collaboration between international stakeholders remains limited, and efforts to promote voluntary return have not been effective. The return policies are unclear to Syrian refugees, who often lack access to relevant information.
The decision for Syrian refugees to return largely depends on the political stability in Syria. Additionally, the infrastructure in Syria is weak and underdeveloped, further discouraging returns.
In Jordan, there is no enforced return or irregular migration of Syrian refugees. There have been 69,417 recorded cases of spontaneous returns from 2016 to 2023 and 243,610 asylum applications between 2015 and June 2024.
Data on assisted returns, readmitted citizens, entry refusals and pushbacks, foreign nationals ordered to leave, and alternative or various returns is not available. Dublin returns do not apply to Jordan.
